Out with the old and In with the new...

I am a firm believer that the natural does indeed reflect that which goes on in the spiritual. For example...
Last night what started out as a simple aspiration to clean my room (which usually consists of just picking up clothes) turned into an all out room makeover. I have noticed that my bedroom tends to be the coldest room in the house. I realized that this is due to the fact that my bed is positioned over the vent thus blocking the heat from doing its job. Last night I was finally in the mood to do something about it...more or less because Natalie is home and I can't camp out in her room anymore. :( Anyway...
I started out just moving my bed to the other side of my room, swapping it with my dresser. I didn't like the look of it so I decided to put my desser in the closet. In order to make this work though I had to take the closet door off and I had to then clean out my closet. At this point I should make something known...

Hi my name is Leanne Raboin and I am a pack-rat.

My closet, to the average observer looks like just a bunch of clothes hanging neatly on hangers and then at the bottom, several trunks and containers. Nothing too daunting...but open those trunks and containers and you would be appalled and maybe...slightly intrigued. Each container, without fail, hold different arrays of randomness, everything from socks to old journals. Therefore, for the next 3 hours I sorted through each container and trunk. It shouldn't have taken this long but as one knows, its hard to stay focused when you find long lost and forgotten "treasures." My old journals and notes from different classes that I had taken throughout my life held me captive and kept me entertained for quite awhile. FINALLY, after two trashbags filled with mismatched socks, knick-nacks, clothes and paper, I had my closet and room cleaned out. Never have I had the guts to throw out so much stuff!
After everything was finally in order, I sat on my newly positioned bed to admire my room. What a sight to behold! That's when I realized that this sudden change in the appearance of my room was a perfect example of the change that has taken place in me. It reminds me of the scripture in 2 Corinthians - "old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
For a little over a year I have been challenged to put away childish things so that I can embrace maturity. Some of the things I threw away from my room were things from when I was in junior high and highschool. Things which at the time were worth keeping but are now pretty lame. In my life I have been challenged to throw away old behaviors and thought patterns because they just don't suit an adult anymore. They were acceptable for a child but are pretty lame now. I could have kept these things, I mean they were neatly packaged away, but they took up unnecessary space thus inhibiting me from using that space for new things. lol. I think this principle can correlate to my life as well.
Thus I would like to boldy state...out with the old and in with the new!

Strange Events...

Ok, so I'm thinking back upon my day yesterday and I would like to submit that it was really quite an odd day. Humor me as I rehash my day...

I was to be at work by 6am on Wednesday morning. Dad was going to take me in cuz I found out on Tuesday evening that my front right tire was flat. :( I went to bed around 11:30pm on Tuesday night, setting my alarm to 5:38am before I drifted off to sleep. At exactly 12:06am I suddenly woke up, jumped out of bed and grabbed my jacket to leave. I glared at my alarm clock trying to make sense of the numbers in red. Finally it clicked in my brain that it was only midnight. So heart pounding wildly, I put my jacket down and crawled back into bed. Only to wake up again at 3:14am. This time I instead of grabbing my jacket and I put on my gym shorts, *sigh. By this time I am getting very annoyed and flustered with myself but I swagger back into bed only to be rudely awakened by my dad 2 hours later at 5:15am. "Leanne..." "I'm awake!" grrr. So thus was the start of my day...
On to strange event number 2.
After I got off work that Wednesday morning I head out to my car. On my way to my car I happened to notice a man standing outside of the drivers side door of his Chevy pick up truck. At first glance I thought he was just searching for his keys, then I realized his truck was running and he appeared to be talking to it. That's when I noticed that there was a small girl, probably three years old, bouncing around inside of the truck. She would go from the passenger side seat to the drivers seat. This little girl had locked her father out and was loving it! The father on the other hand was near to panicking and was trying in vain to remain calm as to not scare his daughter. He was trying to coach his daughter to unlock the door for daddy. I found this whole scenerio to be hilarious and wanted to stick around for the rest of the show but I knew that my presence would have only added to rising stress level in that parking lot that morning. :)
Strange Event number 3:
I had to be back at work by noon yesterday and when I arrived everyone was all hussle and bussle. Our annual Christmas banquet for YMCA members was underway. But I had to work so I bypassed everyone and headed to my sanctuary...the pool area. After I had unlocked the doors I headed over to the sauna to crank the heat up...as is my custom. As I approached it though I caught a wiff of something wonderful...bread. I slowly peered into the sauna...sure enough, there on the sauna benches were about 500 dinner rolls piled high in baskets, waiting to be served to our guests at the banquet. Yum yum!
Last but certainly not least, Strange Event number 4:
This event is not really strange but it fit into the pattern of the day and it's about me this time so it can't be left unnoted.
After I got off work in the afternoon I then had to hurry about to prepare for the Youth Pizza party that I was hosting at the church before our Wednesday night service. I made phone calls, ordered the pizza, showered, beautified myself, then booked it to my car so that I could get the sodas and be at church by 5pm. In my hurry I forgot to grab the church credit card off the kitchen counter. At this point I'm already in the car ready to go, but since I needed money to pay for the sodas I couldn't just leave. So I unbuckle, open my car door and spring out, ready to sprint back into the house to get the credit card. That was my plan but that is not what happened. As my feet hit the pavement to take off, already pretty much running, I found an ice patch and totally wiped out. I probably would have received a perfect score, all tens, for how I must have looked. As soon as I hit the pavement I let out a howl of praise to the Lord...haha, and then just lay there. I didn't know whether to cry or laugh so I whimpered, picked myself up and dragged myself inside...still determined to complete my mission. I inspected myself on the way back to the car and found that I had gashed my hand and knee pretty good. Just a little blood, but more or less just some nice scratches. My war wounds!
And that was my day yesterday! :) After my incident in my driveway things went on as normal. So...let me see. The point to my story is this...normal isn't all that bad. :) I dunno....

Potato Soup for the Soul

Greetings!
I just returned from a great evening spent with my lovely friends, Ashlie and Gavin. My two highlights from the evening were: eating the spectacular potato soup prepared by Ashlie and then afterwards the hours we spent trying to come up with a name for her blog. What fun can come about when two minds like ours come together...ya better watch out is all I can say! Gavin would come check on us from time to time but I don't think he found our new preoccupation to be very entertaining. We'd call on him whenever we thought of a new name but he would quickly retreat back to the living room to his movie, shaking his head as he went. I think he was just completely in awe of our creative minds. haha.
Anyway...all in all a magical evening. Can't go wrong when you're surrounded by good friends and good food! God is good.
